The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care level II qualification provides an opportunity for workers to undertake a range of tasks to support the provision of health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients. The course requires the completion of 11 units for students to receive the full qualification.
The certificate II provides a wide range of topics including:
  • Working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients
  • Communication and work in the health sector
  • Participating in OHS processes
  • Infection control policies and procedures
  • Applying first aid
  • Processing and maintaining workplace information

The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care level III qualification provides an opportunity for workers to undertake a range of tasks to support the provision of health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients. The course requires the completion of 14 units for students to receive the full qualification.
The certificate III provides a wide range of topics including:
  • Working in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health care context
  • Facilitating communication between clients and services providers
  • Advocating for the rights and needs of community members
  • Undertaking, planning and implementing basic health assessments
  • Applying first aid
  • Providing information about social and emotional support and environmental health issues

The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care level IV qualification provides an opportunity for workers to provide a range of primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients, including specific health care programs. Workers at this level undertake a variety of job roles and undertake a broad range of tasks. The course requires the completion of 14 units for students to receive the full qualification.
The certificate IV provides a wide range of topics including:
  • Addressing social determinants of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander healthFacilitating communication between clients and services providers
  • Advocating for the rights and needs of community members
  • Assessing and supporting client's social and emotional well being
  • Establishing and monitoring case plans
  • Delivering health promotion programs
  • Working within a relevant legal and ethical framework
  • Working effectively in the alcohol and other drugs sector
  • Working effectively in mental health

The Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care provides an opportunity for workers to provide a range of primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients which may apply in program delivery, management, policy or education functions. Workers at this level undertake a broad range of tasks and work autonomously under the broad guidance of others. The course requires the completion of 15 units for students to receive the full qualification.
The Diploma provides a wide range of topics including:
  • Applying a strategic approach to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health
  • Advocating on behalf of the community
  • Planning, developing and evaluating health promotion for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Establishing effective workplace relationships
  • Developing, implementing and promoting effective workplace communication
  • Ensuring team effectiveness
  • Supporting and promoting social and emotional well being of staff and clients
  • Providing education and promotion delivery of special content relevant to client needs
